Dr. Atim Eneida George—scholar, storyteller, and founder of Generative Gaze—served as a keynote speaker at the recently concluded retreat A Time to Deepen: Reimagine, Redefine, Realign. Held st the Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center, A Time to Deepen imbibed the spirit of renewal and collective inquiry, gathering change agents, creatives, and community leaders seeking deeper alignment with purpose and possibility.
Dr. G opened the gathering on Sunday, April 27, a date resonant with global meaning—the 31st anniversary of South Africa’s Freedom Day, marking the country’s first democratic elections. In her keynote session, “Cultivating Your Leadership Story Using the River of Life: Looking Back to Spring Forward,” Dr. G invited participants to trace the arc of their lives through metaphor and memory. Using the “River of Life” arts-based framework, participants reflected on turning points, tributaries, and moments of stillness, grounding their personal narratives in ancestral strength and lived experience.
With the soulful accompaniment of musicians Marcy Baruch and Loren Hooker, the session lifted into a powerful communal moment as participants learned and sang “Lovelife,” Dr. G’s original poem. This offering blended spiritual resonance, musical embodiment, and joyful affirmation—hallmarks of the Generative Gaze.
In the afternoon, Dr. G facilitated a hands-on workshop titled “Touchstones – Tapping Into Inner Wisdom.” Through acrylic paints, natural materials, and reflective prompts, participants created symbolic touchstones—tangible reminders of their inner knowing, resilience, and sacred worth.
Dr. G’s presence at the retreat embodied her signature approach: interweaving art, narrative, leadership, and healing to cultivate spaces of transformation. The Generative Gaze continues to serve as a beacon for those seeking to lead with authenticity, compassion, and ancestral guidance.
